A Deeper Look Into Organic Formula

Our Standards

At Beyond Organic Baby, we offer 99 percent organic cow and goat’s milk formulas. For the past eight decades, the free-range animals that produce Beyond Organic Baby’s milk have grazed on green, clean, European pastures. These pastures also focus on something called, Biodynamic Farming, which according to the Biodynamic Association, is defined as: “a holistic, ecological and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food and nutrition.”

Biodynamic Farmers also have the purpose and goal of sustaining their farms into the future, so that they can continue to support their communities with healthier, cleaner food. Wouldn’t you, in turn, want to support something like that? We do!

The point of this isn’t necessarily to bring up an interesting, or fun fact, it is to bring up the fact that our standards of “what is organic” are far beyond the norm. This is why we are BEYOND organic.

Synthetic Ingredients In Formula

Due purely to curiosity, we all check the ingredients list of foods, especially the foods that will be consumed by our children. Unfortunately, this usually doesn’t end in a warm and fuzzy feeling, mainly because the ingredients on the labels might as well be ancient Latin.

According to the The Picky Eater synthetic formulas often contain: “processed refined sugars (syrup, syrup solids)—corn syrup (glucose syrup solids)…or brown rice syrup. Manufacturers use these because they are cheaper than lactose (which is what should be in formula).” Sure, a little bit of that now and then won’t kill you and even the healthiest of us bend from time to time. However, your baby, fresh off of breast milk and onto formula isn’t bolstered with the ability to process that properly. The formula that an infant needs, especially before age 1, should be as pure as what they were given right out of the womb. Right?

Why Organic Formula

Aside from just saying, “go organic,” or “organic food is the best just because,” there are perceivable reasons to stay away from synthetic baby formulas. Most synthetic formulas are filled with extra fatty acids, preservatives, and amino acids that an infant body cannot process. To name one, l-carnitine is commonly found in most products lacking the organic formula tag. L-carnitine is also commonly used for adult, pre-workout supplements to synthetically increase energy and speed up the metabolism and fat burning process.

Your baby eats on average between 4 and 8 times per day, so do you really want to speed up its metabolism even more and create more hunger? Also, the fats and carbohydrates that are contained in breast milk and formula are absolutely essential to an infant’s physical development.

“A child who gains too little weight in childhood is at greater risk of becoming an overweight adult because the caloric deficit metabolically programs their body to be more efficient in storing calories,” says Earth’s Best Organic. They also mention in the same article, “where baby gains too little weight, falls off the growth curve and begin to miss developmental milestones. Babies getting diets too low in fat and too low in essential fatty acids may suffer from visual problems and mental delays.”

Of course there are many more reasons and much more science that could be thrown into the situation; however, these facts alone at least lay out the importance of looking into organic formula.
